Trump trial live updates: Closing arguments begin in historic hush money trial
Donald Trump’s historic hush money trial entered its final act Tuesday morning as the former president’s defense attorney Todd Blanche began delivering his closing argument in the case.
Blanche spoke for nearly three hours, seeking to poke holes in the prosecution’s case and, specifically, the testimony of its key witness, Michael Cohen. After a lunch break, prosecutor Joshua Steinglass will deliver the prosecution’s closing argument, which he told the judge will be “somewhere in the vicinity of four to four-and-a-half hours,” according to NBC News.
Trump faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to conceal a $130,000 hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels in an attempt to prevent it from becoming public during his 2016 presidential bid.
Attorneys for both sides rested their cases last week after 20 days of testimony, including that of Daniels herself and Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer and so-called fixer turned foe, who said Trump directed him to pay Daniels for her silence with the promise of reimbursement.
